The True Cost of crowdfunding

You have made the decision to create a crowdfunding campaign, That's great! Now all you have to do is, research your field, write up a business plan, build up a social media presence, develop business relationships, build a team, create an impactful campaign with great rewards..... You knew all of this right? Crowdfunding is not for the faint of heart. You have to love what you are doing and be willing to let everyone else know just how much you love what you are doing. If you are sleeping then that is one less person who will see your post.

From a distance crowdfunding seems as if with a little bit of effort anyone can run a successful campaign. This is far from the truth, a polished campaign requires months, for some  years of complete focus on research and development. Every moment you should be asking yourself; How can my campaign make a big impact on society? Regardless if you are introducing a new product, forming a non-profit or planning an event, if you are not targeting a large segment of society you are limiting your chances of reaching your campaign goal. To prove this point, technology and social causes are the top two categories for successful campaigns on Kickstarter. The reason why is because both of these platforms have a large audience that participates in the growth of the market.

However this does not mean you have to choose one or the other, you can run a successful campaign using other business models but you will have to spend more time reaching your audience. So instead of using social media as your sole means of marketing you have to add other channels to promote your campaigns such as; speaking engagements, expos, and networking events. You have to build business relationships with people, businesses and existing platforms that will help to reach your targeted audience.
